Happen to have the track handy? :)

Ted,

And many thanks to you, too! I'll get that track in the mail to you shortly.

What he said.

I always love reading your ride reports

Rick,

Hey, thanks a lot! The reports are a lot of fun to produce, and I'm really glad that you and others enjoy them.

It's amazing how much I learn about the places I've visited after I've gotten back home and have had a chance to check into the specifics. And then I want to go back, since I almost always find that something else interesting was just around the corner. For example, I didn't realize when I was there that the surviving buildings from Thomas, 6th Lord Fairfax's "Greenway Court" estate and hunting lodge were just a couple miles further down the road from White Post.

The next time!

Jody,

And many thanks to you, too. The Day-Lily may have been the only flower I've ever recognized on any of my trips. (Thanks for confirming its identity--otherwise I'd be batting a complete 0 percent...)

John,

Well, I have to admit it--you've got a point. I desperately wanted to find all the owners of the cars parked around the train station in Shenandoah and make them move their cars somewhere else. But I couldn't find anyone at all, except the train engineer.

On this trip, for some reason, I didn't see any interesting old cars--American, European, anything. I was hoping that the 1860 Colt revolver would make up for the dearth of vintage vehicles…

My commute thru White Post this morning about 6 AM on 340 north, was met with a State Police road block. Had to go thru old White Post, back roads past Long Branch plantation, then thru Millwood on old US 50 back to 340 to Berryville. (commute is a rough 18 miles, especally deer. :-) Rumor has it was a "bust" of some sort. Coworker said they saw the bullet proof state police truck and lots of other vehicles.

We do get SOME excitement out here.

Ken E.

Ken,

The collective knowledge of folks on this board never fails to amaze me!

Who would have thought that sleepy little White Post would generate such drama?? At least you had what sounds like an interesting detour.

Back when I worked with non-violent felons, the Department of Corrections maintained a "work camp" out in White Post. Probably a walk-away.

You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to
skydive twice.
