Rocketman Rides Again

Postby RocketMan » Thu Oct 29, 2009 6:01 pm

Went out last Sunday to the VA Breakfast meet and then for a nice 200 mile ride on my brand new motor, I Due mean Brand New. She had 40 miles on her when I left Home that morning and now is half way thru the break-in period.

Wow! I’d forgotten just how sweet a 1000 airhead can pull, no slough that’s fer sure! Its SO nice to be able crack the throttle and feel her really get up and go!
Bill and I wound up doing the 675/678 route for some leaf peepping enjoy some less crowded roadways (the Skyline Drive entrance was backed up to 211 going over the blue ridge and 211 was surprising clear of debris of the rains. Coming home even some sports bikes type had trouble keeping up with me thru a few turns Ha Ha!

So some pics…

when we stopped to take the pics above, Bill asked me to take a pic of his Odo, he was sitting right on 60000, perfect timing!

Image

its a shame they stopped cutting back the undergrouth at the overlook on 675 really blocks a lot of the view of the valley, still nice though and lots of color down below..

Bill ran into an old friend at the over look and there's my new motor in the pic, looks oddly like my old one till you look real close at the motor....

The depth of color in some of these shots is absolutely breathtaking, Jeff! Congrats too on the new ride!

Something wrong with your lens -- most of the leaves are some color other than green

RM,

Great pictures--there's a lot of nifty fall colors down there in Ol' Virginny.

I must be behind the news. Where did the 1000 Airhead come from? Is this a new/used bike, or did you stuff a bigger motor in your old Airhead??

Regardless, I'm glad you got out for a break-in ride and found some scenery for us!

Its always been a 1000 actually, but now after around 150k its got a completely rebuilt motor, its probably in better shape now than when I first got her ten years ago with 22k. Once again I can pass and excel going up hill!

Nice pictures! I really enjoy riding 675/678. After seeing your pictures, I think I will hope some of the color may still be there and do that ride again this Sunday.
