GREAT PHOTO!
That's a farmhouse.
Just to the right of the fence is Dykeman's Spring, a large freshwater spring which used to be a major source of Shippensburg's water.
I remember fishing in the round-stone-walled spring(in the early 60's)...it actually has the darker fence around it now..in the background, and serves as a fingerling pond for the Shippensburg Flyfishing Club...and the farmer running out of the house yelling for me to stop! He lifted the wooden gate to drain the pond, so the 36" rainbow trout would come out of hiding. He'd caught it elsewhere, and brought it home to keep in that pond.
There's a nice nature-trail right across the road from this.
Up the hill is the building that used to house our municipal incinerator, our pride-and-joy, which people travelled the world to come see.
Nothing but white water-vapor came out the stack, and very little ash went to the landfill.
Then a load of microfilm from the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot was brought for disposal. The operators forgot to remember that microfilm is NITROCELLULOSE and would burn extremely extreme.
It destroyed the stainless steel grates and the thing was never repaired.
