Back of the Dragon & Hungry Mother State Park

Postby bdimon » Mon Jun 16, 2014 12:03 am

I'm thinking about a ride to southwest Virginia to ride the Back of the dragon http://backofthedragon.com/. I was there ages ago and remember there is great riding there. I'm thinking about making a base camp in Hungry Mother State Park and riding a day or two. Anybody interested in a three or four day weekend of riding& camping? We could take a long Friday to ride there, explore the area for one or two days, then take another long ride home. Hungry Mother State Park is 375 miles away which can take as long as eleven and a half hours if we do it right.
I am thinking of July or August. Interested?

I would like to go July 18 - 21. That would mean leave on Friday and return on Monday. Two days away from the office would give a four day ride.

The obvious way down to Hungry Mother State Park woods be via the Blue Ridge Parkway but would it be better to go west into West Virginia and wiggle southward?

Okay people, check your calendar and your map.

I did not post anything about this trip because work cancelled it at the last minute. It's been a rough year at the office. Next year should be good though.

I was down there a few weeks ago and did part of Back of the Dragon....It's a BEAUTIFUL area!!! I highly recommend it and the cabins are great!! Nothing fancy but nicer than I expected. I would love to go again. I liked the Back of the Dragon just as much if not more than the Tail of the Dragon...ymmv.
