Login 'remember me' time

Postby Anton on Tue Mar 20, 2012 8:43 pm

Looks like this is now two days. So I have to login basically every time? No other forum I'm on has such a short time, and I think this is controlled in the phpBB settings. Or is it just me?

6 months or a year is more common. I essentially never get logged out of most forums.

+1

I wish it was longer. It used to be longer. It's a pain to keep logging back in.

A change would be appreciated.

Thanks.

After the site is down for update, repair, whatever, a new login is required. I'm not sayin' that's what's going on, but it could be.

Log out. Delete the BMWBMW cookies. Log in. Look at the expiration date on the new cookie.

Hmmm. I've not had to log in for weeks now. I wonder what the difference is.

I've had to log in several times in the last couple weeks, but I wasn't counting the days between them. Now I'm curious, though, so I will :D

I also noticed this so I went into the settings and discovered that it was set for two days so I bumped it up to seven days. Not sure what the norm should be but let us know if it's still a pain.

Something like six months, really. Or forever (typically zero in the config). Unless there's a real reason to log people out after a specific time, why do it? Other forums don't.

+1 for making " stay logged in" the default setting. I participate in about a dozen different forums. This is the only one that forces periodic logon. It is a real pain to logon from a phone touchscreen just to catch up on what is happening in this world.

Sorry for not catching this thread earlier. The change was my doing as a way to counter spambots and to avoid possible security compromises to the site if someone's PC gets hacked and their login to our site is automatic. I will extend the period of time that you can automatically login. I would like to get some sort of consensus on time though. I think being logged indefinitely is not a good idea. Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience!

For future reference, when there is an issue like this or any other problems/suggestions concerning the site, please email me at webmaster@bmwbmw.org. It is great that you all posted here about the issues/suggestions and I encourage it. I will make a better effort to monitor this forum more closely going forward. It would also help me take faster action if I also get an email. I check those regularly. I hadn't been watching this forum since no one has posted to it in almost two years. Thanks guys! :D
