Show 'n' Shine: Cruiser Day

A couple of years ago, BMW’s marketing mavens in Munich decided that they had given the R1200C and its spin-off models, Euro, Stiletto, CL, Montauk, etc., enough of a chance. So they unceremoniously terminated all further development and production of the Cruiser line, as if it were merely yesterday’s fashion statement, no less fatuous and fleeting than, say, Pokemon!

Little did they realize that Cruiser owners here in the States had already formed an identity group based on the unique boxer some called the “Bavarian Brute.” But just as this nascent market niche was on the verge of erupting into a enthusiast subculture with clout, the guys in suits back in the Fatherland pulled the plug! Hey, timing is everything. Maybe they thought the bad news would slip in under the radar. Maybe they figured America’s catatonic consumers would be easily distracted by the new batch of hyper-powered crotch rockets and high-tech dirt bikes for yuppies. Maybe they cynically hoped that Cruiser owners would simply be too busy polishing their chrome to notice they had been dumped!

Well, it didn’t exactly go down like that. Have you heard? Some folks are mad and they’re organizing. Yes, there’s actually a grassroots movement taking shape to Bring Back the Cruiser! Could this thing gather sufficient momentum to really matter? If enough disgruntled Cruiser lovers raise their voices here in America, could it make a difference in the boardrooms of Bavaria? It’s too soon to tell, but it sure looks like an important battle is brewing.

Frankly, we at Bob’s don’t have a dog in this fight, BUT … it’s just not like us to watch from the sidelines either. We have a responsibility as a dealer to support our esteemed customers in their endeavors to get the most out of their BMW riding experience. Therefore, how could we, as Americans FIRST — and BMW dealers second — not support our customers’ constitutional right to exercise their Freedom of Speech in service of their Pursuit of Happiness?

So … CALLING ALL CRUISER RIDERS!
If you want to let ‘em know that you’re pissed and you’re not gonna take it anymore, ride in to Bob’s for our Cruiser Day Show ‘n’ Shine — Saturday, October 20th. As is typical of all our Show ‘n’ Shine days, there will be awards for outstanding bikes, some great stuff ON SALE, good EATS available from Nihilator Catering, and all the other normal (and some abnormal) forms of frivolity. But most importantly, this is a chance to stand with your brothers and sisters, raise your fists, hoist your placards of protest, and shout out your resounding resolve!

At NOON we will take your PHOTO as a group, and then use our considerable sway in this business to make sure that the proper authorities at BMW see it and take it seriously! You’ll also be able to sign up to receive a high resolution copy of the photo emailed to you as a keepsake of this momentous event – FREE! And, of course, you’ll want to sign the Petition to Bring Back the Cruiser!

Spread the word! Owners of ALL OTHER BRANDS of cruisers, American and Metric, are enthusiastically encouraged to come stand in solidarity with their BMW biker brethren. TOGETHER YOU SHALL BE HEARD.

Let’s show the barons of business back in Bavaria a little of the Revolutionary Spirit that made America GREAT!
