Steve,
Bummer the hotel didn't work out for Friday's event but appreciate the extra effort at making it a success! Looking forward to the event - really had a great time last year!

Alright, enough about who's eating what brats where. Steve continues to do the best he can to make us as happy as possible, including with cost. I'm just happy they've created this event.

More importantly, who's riding somewhere interesting on Sat, anyone heading far South or West?

Greg and I found a great fire road last year. We didn't make it to the fire tower last year but might try again this year.

Not sure what my riding plans are, just looking for some fun! Hope some GSn roads are within easy reach.

For those who are interested, we're going to have guided rides both on- and off-pavement this year. Eddy Alvarez, one of our GS community guys, will lead the off-pavement ride; Kurt Nordstrom and Charles Peebles will each lead a ride on pavement, one west of I-81 and one east of I-81. All the group rides will be on Saturday. We'll also have handouts for other rides on asphalt and dirt.

Last year we walked around whatever little town is close by Natural Bridge. This year I plan to ride all day Saturday!

I was hoping, since the weather will be so nice, to take a nice long ride to somewhere interesting for lunch and back on Saturday. Anything worth doing/eating in Ferrum? Roanoke? Beckley WV? Ideas?

Does anyone have a handle on Beer-fetching logistics for Friday and Saturday night?

We don't all have spaceship looking bikes with loads of storage, built in coolers, etc., and in that part of VA it can be hard to find a beer store open at certain times, especially a beer store with good craft brews.

Please advise.

I've been observed using an improvised cooler. After setting up camp, keep your waterproof duffel (Ortlieb, etc.) strapped on the saddle/rack. Pick up 10lbs ice and 6/12 pack of beer and convey back to camp. Remove Ortlieb from bike to your campsite and you should have enough ice in the bag to see you well thru the evening (unless it's Bloomsburg) Scott

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, the hotel did a bit of a switch on us, and we're trying our best to work through it. Next year, we'll know the story up front and, while the Friday dinner will of necessity be more expensive to cover the hotel's charges, we should be able to do it at the cottage area as we originally intended for this year. We're also looking at the possibility of having a vehicle to shuttle people to and from the KOA so those who drink beer don't have to ride back. Sometimes life gets interesting and we have to adapt. Stay tuned.

I didn't realize the hotel weenied out after the fact.

A shuttle would be great as it is the drinking and riding that was the problem, not that it is offsite. And I appreciate that a refund is an option if we choose, that's pretty stand up.

$10 for sidecar rides back to the hotel :D

I'd pay for that. Only rode in a sidecar once...most funnest passenger ride ever. :D

Many moons ago, I participated in the Hampden Christmas parade with an acquaintance. He was driving a Vespa with a hack and I rode in said hack. He was wearing a Santa suit and I dressed as a reindeer. We had loads of fun. He also flew the chair while I was in it. Very good times!

I like the shuttle idea! Too

I'm looking forward to this event! I missed it last year so I'm making up for it this year. Getting ready to order my shirt now!

How does one go about signing up for the on-road rider training course there?
