2012 MOA Rally in MO

Postby guitardad on Sun Aug 28, 2011 3:46 pm

Yes, I know it's early, but I'm thinking about different options. One thing I'd like is a Party Central in club camping, like we had this year. So is anybody thinking about next summer yet?

...what about renting an RV close to Sedalia and making THAT party central?

Or rent one here and drive it out. I wouldn't mind sharing the driving duties. I know we weren't allowed to tow anything behind the one we rented in Alaska, but we might be able to in the lower 48 (we have a 6x12 flatbed that we can haul a few bikes with). It's definitely something I'm willing to check into. Not too big, not too small, and a slide-out would be a must IMO.

Now - that being said, would we be allowed to set it up in the club camping area, or be limited to the "RV" area???? Chaz????

I'd expect an RV, if we wanted an electric hookup for the A/C, would have to be in the RV area. Of course, we could set up Party Central like the Airheads do - a rental tent, and space for the couple of folks who wanted to tent next to it.

Yeah, I'm thinking about it - thinking there's no way I'll hit another sweatfest like we had this summer. Who schedules these things for mid-July??

I think if anything, we should combine the 2 ideas - rent an RV AND a big tent thing and set them up together. It was just way too hot in Bloomsburg, even under the shade!

Keep in mind - the temps in Bloomsburg were not normal but THAT IS the normal temps for the MO rally next year! I think AC is going to be a huge plus! Set up the big tent thing on the outside of the RV unit and people can hang out there.

People that are only slightly less crazy than the people that camp at these things! :D

Chaz and I were thinking we'd ride to the Rally, check in and leave one bike on site. Then two up to the nearest RV rental place (Kansas City, I think), and one of us would drive the RV and the other ride.

The airheads enlist the local Good Will/Salvation Army for their set up. Its pretty cool, "Do you folks deliver? How many sofas have you got on hand?... deliver to the fairgrounds at... Oh, and we'll donate all this back to you on Monday, if you can pick it up."

We could do something similar... I'm thinking about the huge array of equipment that our son's Boy Scout Troop had amassed and stored, much of it donated to them. For a donation to the troop, we could probably get a similar arrangement.

I wish I could find the damn link on another board, but someone posted a link to a local RV place that offered delivery of the rig to the site. They targeted family reunions, group events, etc. Google it and you may have some luck.
You may need to meet the driver at the gate and tag along to see where it is delivered on the site, but easier than dealing with the driving.

Hmm.. almost exactly 1,000 miles to Sedalia. A while back, someone (prez? I forget) mentioned forming an organized BMWBMW Saddle Sore run. Is that still being considered? There will be no shortage of people willing to sign the forms.

I have done several 800+ days and plan on doing the Saddle Sore run to the MOA. After a day or two at the rally I will be heading to the BMWST Unrally in Colorado that starts on 7/24 in Salida, CO.

If you or anyone else is interested in going along for the ride email me - endobobdds@gmail.com
