2011 Rides Program

Heard of an Event of Interest to BMWBMW Members?

Re: 2011 Rides Program

Yeah, I selected a laminated number because I figured that it would be easier to control in the wind. As an experienced Great Tourer, I've found that clipping the number to the windshield with clothespins works well. Chasing the number across the highway can cause yer eyeballs to bug out.

"Any route numbers from 1 to 99 may be used" So, I interpret that to mean Alt, E, W, etc.

edit: I thought one of the 5 "states" included DC since we are BMWBMW.

I'm in for the laminated copy, too. And for those who think NC is too far, you can never go too far for good BBQ :D

If you're looking for US 13, it runs near Ayden NC, where Pete Jones' Skylight Inn is located, and Goldsboro NC, where Wilber's BBQ and Scott's BBQ are. True eastern-NC whole-hog bbq, a special gustatorial and cultural experience. Those 3 should be on everyone's BBQ Life List. Buy some of Scott's vinegar-pepper sauce while you're at it. You can use it when you get over toward the middle of the state, where tomato-based sauce starts to take hold.

Ed,

As with the others, a laminated number rather than a towel works for me.

Can we get the numbers anywhere and not just the five states and D.C.?

Thanks to you and Barb for hosting the program - it is appreciated!!!

Oh and if anybody wants to bring me a bottle of non-tomato-based bbq sauce, I'm good for it!

Steve, Ed posted a .doc with the rules. The relevant one is that route numbers ending in 0 or 5 must be US routes (except for 55, which doesn't exist as a US route), so that requires getting at least those elsewhere. Further, there's no requirement to get numbers in the 5 states, however, a couple of the winning categories are for the most numbers collected in the 5 state area and most numbers collected in only one state (which I suppose could be any state).

I am comfortable with these oh-so-true statements: I hope to ride a bit this year. I hope to take a bunch of photos near signs with route numbers. I would love a flag with a number on it, but I would be also happy with a number in any format.

I am uncomfortable with these statements, yet I would be lying by omission if I did not speak up: I somewhat enjoy barbecue, but only somewhat. I have recognized bad barbecue, but I can not discern between good barbecue and excellent barbecue. I would like to like great barbecue, and I would love to love exceptional great barbecue - - but alas I am not qualified.

For anyone wishing to improve barbecue-tasting qualifications, this trail probably crosses a lot of numbered routes. :D

The rules don't really state but rather refer too the ultimate goal. It just says "Any route numbers from 1 to 99 may be used with the following exception...."

I'm guessing from this thread that the goal is to take pictures of as many differnt route signs as possible, but is there any more to know for those that missed the meeting?

Within the parameters of the rules, this is correct.

There wasn't anything spelled out in the meeting that doesn't appear in Ed's .doc post. He usually passes out numbers at the Mar club meeting and answers whatever questions crop up. If you have any questions, ask them here and you may get an answer before the meeting.
