Rear engine oil seal

Postby guitardad » Sat Sep 01, 2007 6:26 pm

So I spent some time today just tweaking and tightening things on Clifford. I pulled the starter to check the clutch plate, and it MAY need to be replaced before the winter is over. But there was a fair amount of oil in there. I figure it's gotta be either the front seal on the transmission or the rear seal on the engine. And since the trans was rebuilt by somebody who knows what they're doing, I'm more suspicious of the engine rear seal. Anybody done this? My Haynes says it can be done with the engine still in the bike, but it also says use "an appropriate drift or socket" to press it into place. Looks like the socket would be larger than the largest (30mm) I've got. Anybody want to suggest the right size?
