Dual Spark Conversion

Postby island_dude » Thu Jun 05, 2003 8:41 am

There is has been a lot of interest on other boards about modifying single spark oil heads to use dual plugs. From what I can see this isn't clearly a trivial thing since the dual spark oilheads do not fire both plugs at the same time. This means that you need a new EPROM, and ignition system.

I understand that there are some conversion kits available. The jury is out asfar as I know as to if these simply add a second plug and fire them in sync or actually have two independent systems. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Talk to Fish either on the big list, ADVrider or the MOA forum. He has had it done to his RT by SJ BMW and claims it's the cat's PJs. The way he described it in his posts, they did in fact fire the same as the primary plug with a replaced dual coil (standard connector on the new lower plug and original bmw coil/connector on the primary plug).

Is the dual plug a must do, a nice upgraqde, or a waste? Personally my RT runs fine and really I have to ask "What Surging"?
