Troubleshoot 12 V Power Outlet

Recently the 12V power outlet (cigarette lighter size) I have my GPS plugged into is no longer providing power. I have an ‘04 R1150 RT-P.

I checked all fuses and they are all good. I did a visual check also used an ohm meter to check continuity.

I used the ohm meter to check the output at the plug (ignition On and Off) and I get no reading. There is a second 12V outlet on the right side and below the seat that also reads nothing.

There are two small powerlet ports on the left side and one of them reads just below 12 V.

Where else do I need to check? My battery is fine and I keep it plugged into a Battery Tender Jr. The GPS also works when I plug it into my car.

Just a thought, have you disconnected the battery? Is my thought maybe you need to give the bike a way to reset? I used to use my outlet up by the Nav and it would trip and would not reset (I think) without turning the bike off. Not a mechanic, just a thought.

Tough to say, especially on an RTP with all the other wiring on it. Often the Powerlet itself is the problem.

Wow, so weird. After all the troubleshooting, the Gremlins went away and the GPS unit is working on the bike again.
