2004 11550 GS "stuttering" under acceleration

Postby Slider » Sun Mar 20, 2016 3:21 pm

my GS "stutters" under load regardless of gear at higher rpms. it feels like it is running against the rev limiter. typical "stutter" is between 4500 & 6500 rpms.

fuel is good, new fuel filter & hoses, new plugs.

so whiskey, tango, foxtrot?

thanks for the feedback.

Check the ignition coils.

Likely one of your stick coils is bad. You can unplug them one at a time until you feel the engine change the way it runs. That will be the bad coil.

thanx all, I'll try that again, first check of the "sticks" did not change anything.

New "sticks" from Bob's did the trick, runs like "stink" as they used to say in the old days!

Jim, isn't it the other way around (bad coil is the one where the engine does NOT run worse when it's unplugged)?

Looks as if slider replaced 'em all as a set (which is what BMW recommends) but that has always struck me as hard on the wallet for an item that may or may not fail. Thoughts?

We are basically saying the same thing.
