Well, I decided on yellow, and am glad I did. I did some finish powder coating, then I assembled everything, tightened all the bolts and STARTED IT! It started right up and ran pretty good. No off noises, no smoke, just a clean running motor. I adjusted the idle and it idled smoothly. Until I put the filters on, then it wouldn't idle. Obviously I need new filters that actually flow air. Yeah, I know, I was warned. New filters on the way.

I still need to add the mirrors, adjust the handlebars and install the grips. I should be able to take a short ride tomorrow.

Unless it blows up on me I plan to bring it to Bikes and Breakfast in Clifton next time.

Also added the heat shields today before a short 4 mile test ride. I would burn my leg if I didn't.

Ya coming down with it tomorrow? a couple of months ago there was another Yammer 400 twin scrambler sort of thing there done in a green/blue frame, highly modified and stripped down. I'm planning on coming down on the SR even though the rear tire is in serious need of a rear tire which has been on order for two weeks but hasn't come in yet, but what the hell.
Oh, and Yamaha came out with an SR400 special edition over seas this year with the yellow and black stripe tank like the old TT. Looks nice but I think I like my dark Gray better in a street version.

Got some semi-related work done. I ordered a new SS table that has nice beveled edges. I wanted a more user friendly table for work, plus to use the original table top on my work bench, as I had planned all along.

The SS table I ordered several months ago has a nice rounded front and a back plate. Perfect for my work bench.

Instead I used the hell out of it as a table with a shelf for my XS-400 build.

I still wanted to use it for my work bench, so I ordered another table with no back plate to use for the table, plus it gave me an extra shelf.

Perfect for what I needed.

Then I stripped the structure from the old shelf and construction glued it to my old work bench surface. Old work bench:

Oh, anyone need some washers? I have about 25 pounds of them.

All those washers look the same size. There must be a story behind that 25 pound jar. Made a mistake in the bill aisle at Lowes? ;-)

Sure, it started as a 50 pound box!

Seriously, it did. I was given the box and have given away a bunch of them. I see a lifetime supply at least!

FINALLY got some time to remove the carbs, thoroughly clean them rejet them and replaces all the parts. With some adjusting, the bike is running much better. I also discovered I had the exhaust pipes loose and not sealing on the head.

I also replaced the decals that were messed up, and added the XS400 decals.

Now just a couple minor details like registering it, and away we go.
