2006 r1200rt... Took apart the bike to replace the clutch (32000 miles) I'm the second owner.
After putting it all back together it ran great!! BUT After about 50 miles the engine just stopped. I came to a hault, waited a minute, opened the gas cap ( had just filled up) closed the cap and it started. Great - on I went only to die again about 5 minutes later. NO start.. Was towed home and Was looking at the fuel pump relay wire. Wiggled it and it started right up. I'm concerned that it is just a fluke and I will get
stranded again. Could the relay be bad? How can I test it . It cost about $170 for a new one. Or could it just be a poor connector wire?
Any thoughts would be welcome.

Hey David! Any time the bike has been apart as much as a clutch job requires, I'd be more suspicious of a connection not quite put together tight rather than a failed component. I haven't done a hexhead, but did you have to tilt the back end of the bike up the way we do with oilheads? Anything else you might have moved to get to that fuel pump relay?

Thx for the thoughts.. The bike is split in half.. Many things totally apart Ha..
The fuel tank was out too.. It seems as if .When I jiggle the wire to the pump relay... it then starts and goes well for a while. It will stop at random times, and then the jiggled wire and off I go again.
I cleaned the terminals with spray electric cleaner.. I'll see if that helps too. I am still welcoming all and any help!!

Have to agree w/Chad. Pull all the connectors to the relay, clean everything, put a little dielectric on there & make sure they're reconnected nice & tight.

Or less likely, a clamped off vent hose.

Did that once putting the RT back together.

Well, After much riding. I am pleased to say I have no problems!
I cleaned the terminals and applied the di electric grease. It runs perfect!
