2004 R1150 RT-P Won’t Start

Postby jcabiles » Tue Mar 10, 2015 10:58 am

After riding the previous day, my RT will not start. When turning on the ignition it goes through normal system check; ABS lights flash fast then slow, warning lamp comes on then off, and I hear the fuel pump kick on briefly. When I turn the starter switch on the RID display is blank; clock display is OK but no Fuel or Temp indicators. When I depress the starter button, the engine cranks but does not start.

I have checked the fuses and all are good. Also with the ignition on and when I turn on the lights, the warning lamp comes on and I hear a low buzz coming from the area vicinity of the fuse box. The warning lamp has come on intermittently on some previous rides and the brake lamps checked out OK, so not sure if this is related to the starting and no RID display issue.

What should I be checking, and will a GS 911 help locate the trouble.

My ride has 70K+ miles. I have also posted this to the MOA Oilhead Forum

Disregard. Reply from MOA post solved the issue.

However, I still have an issue with the Warning lamp coming on when the light switch is turned on. The brakes lamps check out fine. There is also a buzzing sound in the area of the fuse box when the light switch goes on and the warning Lamp comes on.

Buzzing sound? Have you checked all the relays?

Fixed It

I guess I should pay attention to the trouble shooting guide. I pulled the rear tail light assembly again and took a closer look at all the bulbs. They all looked serviceable, but did a continuity check on them. One failed. Replaced it and all systems go, no warning light, brake light functioning.

And the buzzing sound stopped.

This is the second time this particular light went out. It is a Sylvania brand bulb. Any recommendations or better brands that last longer?
