Removing engine guards.. 1150 GSA

Postby radon222 » Sun Oct 19, 2014 4:16 pm

I've discovered that right side mounts for my 2005 1150GSA engine guards have cracked. The rear bolt for the top mount is inside the engine guard tube. I can't seem to get a socket to grab on to head of the bolt.

Anyone know off the top of their what socket is required?? I've checked the Microfiche and it only shows the left side bar, which mounts differently.

TIA

Is it possible to grind down a socket so it fits inside whatever you're trying to get to? Could you post a photo?

I can get a number of sockets of varying sizes in to the tube. I just can't get anything to seat on the bolt head. On the left side, the mount point is welded outside the bars and as is shown on the parts fiche.

Have you tried a 8mm Allen?

I can see in the tube...it's definitely not an Allen head like the left side. It's a bolt head.

ummm yea... oookay

I get to wear the dunce cap today :? Got from Baltimore last night and stuck an 8mm Allen in the tube...and guess what.

I guess its like they say, perception is everything. I guess the way the flashlight reflected around in there, by brain thought it looked like a raised bolt head instead of a recessed allen??

Thanks guys.
