I am none too pleased with the build quality on Hepco and Becker crash bars. After three years of service, the right side mounting tab failed this past weekend. Seems to be a stress crack, just past the weld. The weld is solid, it's the steel flat bar stock that failed. Was not the result of an impact. The bike's been over twice on its side, the last one many months ago. Both minor, near-zero speed tipovers. There is probably still enough rigidity in the system to adequately protect the cylinder heads. I'm not sure if I want to rely on "probably." The fix is to take the bars off and have the tab welded and then a new paint job. After all that, it may be simpler to buy new bars (from someone other than H & B).
