What are you calling a solenoid? BMW used relays on you bike. You may also have a Kisan Headlight modulator, they tend to cause trouble.
George, you are correct that OLDER Kisan modulators caused problems. But I don't think the newer ones do--though my newer one hasn't been installed as long as the older one was. How does one tell if it is a newer one or an older one? With the old ones, if I remember correctly, the burned-out-bulb-indicator would flash--so you had a visual that the modulator was working--it was nice. They have honed the newer ones and the burned-out-bulb-indicator doesn't light unless the bulb is
actually burned out! I've had the newer model on my R12RT for nearly 18K miles and no problems so far!
I miss the bulb indicator, though, since there's no way to tell that the modulator is on, except checking for reflectance in the environment!
