Online Tire Purchase

Postby Maria V » Mon Jun 03, 2013 4:13 pm

Seems that SW Mototires was the standard for folks here to use for online purchase, and they did free shipping on two tires. I found their turnaround time for shipping and their service to be pretty hard to beat....BUT it's been a season since the last round of tires, and I wonder what other experiences/vendors you have to share.
Thanks in advance!

I sourced Revzilla for a rear tire in August last year. I thought it was a fair price, they shipped to the installer.

+1 on revzilla.

We buy all our tires there. Often get free shipping.

They ship from NJ so the travel time is quick.

I've gotten 2 sets of tires from Motorcycle SuperStore in the past couple of months. Both times the tires were cheaper than SW Moto & shipping was both free & fast.

You selected any particular brand? If I needed tires for a GS, I'd look at the new Michelin Anakee 3 Tires. A quick look at the mail order suppliers listed in thread shows prices at ~40% discount. Scott

I am planning on the Anakee 3s - seem to be pretty decent tires with good reviews.

Good feeback on the sites - Both suggestions have similar pricing and are VERY competitive with SWMoto.
Thanks all!

I always bought my Michelin's here: http://www.derbycycles.com/

Until I didn't...

My $.02 and my $.02 only: it is usually within a coupla bucks to buy at the local MC shop (no particular brand). Because: there is either no charge for mount/balance if you buy the tires from them, or the mount/balance price is much lower when you buy the tires there. Example: $15 mount/balance if you buy the tires from them or $40 mount/balance if you bring the wheels and tires to them.

That assumes you will not be performing the mount/balance yourself.

So, I did the math. I now support my LOCAL "3 Brand" dealer (the BMW dealers are each over 100 miles from me). And yes, I trust the Japanese dealer with my "special" BMW wheels.

Revzilla and Discount Tires had almost exact pricing. I went with revzilla, ordered yesterday, they'll be here Monday. George with BUA is doing a list for me, these are on the list.

The last few times I've "shopped" for tires, the online places came within $10 when compared to a cerain local dealer, and sometimes the dealer was cheaper. Something to consider is I mount/balance my own tires so a "price break" on the dealer doing that doesn't matter to me. I have usually compared SWMoto to Ron Ayers to Bike Bandit and even Amazon; after all things equalled out (some charge shipping, some don't but have a higher price, etc.), they were all within such a close difference, I looked then at distance and "handling" time - how long until I have the tire? Then one day at this local dealer, I casually asked about some prices to re-confirm by online tire ordering and WOW - they were about the same price (yeah, so I paid sales tax but no shipping - I always shopped comparing the "tire in my house" price) so I've bought my last three locally.

BTW, this dealer was usually over priced on everything in the past; I guess they've changed their ways for the good!
