They are multiplying now what? Bike Project, well sort of

Find myself at the track over a hand full of times each year and always have to walk 10 miles or borrow a pit bike.

Found this on CL for cheep. It had been hit broad side hard. Just finished replacing the front frame. Its the big aluminum part the gas tank sit in. It is also what holds triple tree and all the electronics bolt to it.
With some work I got it to run this evening. Took a good bloody wack to the nose changing the front tire.

Looks cool. I've always liked the Rukus. Be sure to add a fresh coat of black rattle can when you are done.

Same here. I think that one fitted with proper knobbies would be a boatload of fun off-road.

One of the big impressions from our family visits is that Kailua-Kona and that part of the Big Island coast is loaded with Ruckuses (Rucki?).

Update! Re: Rat Bike Project, well sort of

Postby redman » Sun Mar 04, 2012 6:00 pm

Hi, here is an update after a little work.

Got it running much better and riding well. The bars are not stock and to low for me as was the seat. I found an old jack handle that the tripple and the aftermarket goose fit just right. So I cut a slice

Image

The tripple already had a hole in it so I drilled one in the part to match. Then found a bolt and nut
Image

It came with a low seat frame and the stock one. Stock was better for my legs so changed back.

Rides good and bars are just right

Still have some work to do like mounting a cup holder and forward pegs

Very classy -- a worthy pit vehicle!

My pit vehicle, oh, a millennium or so ago, was smaller. It would fit in the back seat of my '57 Plymouth (official motto: "Suddenly it's 1960!"). It would also get a person down and grind his skin off when maneuvered too aggressively. Ultra-short wheelbases are not for everybody.

They are multiplying, now what?

One of these little guys is getting a new low mile motor and the other is getting groomed for a 150cc swap.
Am having fun with the littles as they are a blast. Actually rode one of them to work and back a couple times. Not sure how funny I looked but I know my grin was ear to ear.

Wow. Now you'e got two! Scooter wars!

I like your ghetto fix using the old jack handle! It's a true rat bike once you've used parts found in your garage to rig it up!

Tim,
Yep the thing is cool and I am having fun with them.
The home made riser worked out great, solid as a rock and just the right height but all that is going to change!

Found a donor over in MOCO with only 118km
So going to start the motor swap next week.

Here is what it looks like after I have most of my fabrication done.

Made the motor hanger and fame mounts and the rear shock mounts today and stuck it together.

Tomorrow after work I am going to try and make a kick stand.

Yea, I know, ugly rat Ruckus.
