Ran out of Fuel, now hesitation & power loss?

Ran out of fuel yesterday one mile short of the fuel station. Following refueling the GS stalls, bogs down, hesitate & power is down, what say ye? Dirty crud from the tank getting into the system? Dirty filter?, crap in the injectors? All of the above?

Could be anything, but that sounds like you have fuel in the carbon canister - does your bike still have the c.can on it?

thanx guys! seafoam? wtf is seafoam?

It was fuel in the "can", but I tinkered with it today & so far it starts with hesitation & will rev freely. I did road test it , but plan to late in the week.

ride far, ride smooth & ride safe!

You may have sucked up some crap (water) that had accumulated in the fuel tank.

Fill up with some fresh gas and add some STA-BIL Marine Fuel Stabilizer to your tank, that should clean things out. You can get STA-BIL Marine Fuel Stabilizer at just about any auto parts store.

http://www.goldeagle.com/brands/stabil/default.aspx The STA-BIL site.

Hope that helps.

Seafoam is everything except a dessert toping. http://www.seafoamsales.com/motor-treatment.html

Seriously, I thought it was snake oil until after I had a similar situation as you and after failing to get the bike to start after a fill-up and getting a tow home thanks to BMW Roadside on a Sunday, I tried everything - including have George come by and hook up his GS-911 to look for faults. My last ditch effort before towing it in for service was to pickup a can of Seafoam, dropping a few ounces in the tank, rocked the bike back and forth and hit the starter. After a few sputters, it started like a champ.

It is always helpful to know what year and model of GS you have before giving advice.

How about riding more and replacing them when they're worn out? 4 years seems like a very long time between replacements. Your bike must sit a lot! :(
