But, perhaps I'm being the stereotypical "uptight BMW owner" who thinks all that data belongs to *me*, not BMW Motorrad. :) Everything appears normal, all sensors functioning, no fault codes, and I did reset the stepper motors.

I can see where it would be handy to reset those annoying service reminders when doing periodic maintenance at a club tech day. Bravo to the club for purchasing the unit and laptop. =D>

I got a chance to use two different ones in the last two weeks.. I'd say money well spent.

It showed all of the faults my bike has thrown in the last 12 - 24 months, Low Voltage, ABS Sensor.. and a few others I don't recall. CLeared all the faults, but I still got the ABS fault light. Got that all cleared up.

I'm not sure if you and I are talking about the same thing, but I did see one step in there about calibrating the idle controllers (? if I remember right).. I did it, and man, what a difference. I rode my bike in the next morning, and when I slowed down in the parking lot, it was SMooOOOoooOTH.. I rode around the parking lot about 10 minutes before I parked the bike, I jsut couldn't believe it.

Also Calibrated the ESA, and even the windshield..

I have the club's GS-911 & accompanying laptop at my apartment in Fairfax. I live close to the Vienna metro station. Anybody that needs it can just call, email or PM me!

GS-911 and laptop

Postby lefermier3218 » Tue Jan 14, 2014 11:00 am

I am new to the forum and not sure if I am sending my request to the right person but : there it goes.
I have a problem with my 08 GSA. it won't start, battery is less than one year old, charged ( shows 13+ volts) Gas is good but when I engage the starter I can hear a loud click click ( typical of a low battery ) and the check engine sign shows on the dash. so I am wondering what is the procedure to follow in order to borrow the GS-?? and laptop in order to diagnose the problem.
can you put me on the right track?

It's a wonderful French restaurant, La Ferme. Back in the day, the club had its dinner there.

Your starter may be gunked up and causing the rod not to engage. Usually those starters on the R bikes you'll get a loud whizzing sound when the starter doesn't engage with the flywheel. Something may be loose inside and holding the whole works up. Pop the starter off, clean it up with some electrical cleaner, and see what happens. I've had to do it twice on my 04 RT and once on my 07 GS (before it was mine, right Scratch? :D ) Pretty easy thing to do, takes about half an hour. I may have a pdf file around here I pirated off of adv that talks you right through it.

Where 'ya located? One of us may be able to drop by and have a peek.

I broke down and bought the enthusiast wifi gs-911. I'm almost positive it is upgradeable to the pro version. It is just a software issue that limits how many bikes it will handle.

Hi Eric,

You can upgrade to pro easily at any time. You plug it in to the computer, buy the upgrade, and it will unlock the limit of 10 VINs.
