It's official; BMWBMW has it's own GS-911 and laptop

Postby Janitor » Thu Mar 17, 2011 9:27 pm

That's right folks; our club now has it's own GS-911(pro-model) with a dedicated laptop. It will be available at Tech Days, and as needed. I will be doing a tech session at the SRR on this unit.

I just got it registered this evening and all looks good! Hopefully this will be a great asset to our organization.

More to follow but I just had to get the news out.

Ride well,
Greg

Sweet! Is this YOUR unit, or did the club pony up for it?

Jim,

I already own a GS-911 unit (enthusiast model, limited to 10 vin's) and personal laptop.

This new unit is the pro model, purchased with club funds and BELONGS to the club along with a dedicated laptop.

Many Thanks to our Board members for approving this purchase! =D>

Ride well,
Greg

So a regular GS911 is limited in its use to 10vins?

Yes - the "personal" or "hobbyist" one is limited to 10 VINs. The "pro" or "shop" model is unlimited.

I have one I bought at the MOA last year. Love it!

I thought the "Personal" one has a 10 VIN allowance and the "Pro" had up to a 300 VIN allowance.

In talking with the GS-911 guys at the MOA, I understood the "Personal" model to be upgradeable to "Pro"...

How do we go about scheduling or borrowing this equipment?

It will be available at the club sponsored Tech days during the year - if you cannot make one, reach out to TQ (Tech Queen) and see what you are able to work out. We don't "loan" this out, but perhaps you can make mutually agreeable arrangements. I don't have the expectation of the tech chair that the equipment be brought to people for use on an individual basis, just to clarify.

Hope that answers your question, Ed.

Mike Schen and I got a chance to check out the club's 911 yesterday. Not that I was looking for anything in particular--no issues with the bike. But, perhaps I'm being the stereotypical "uptight BMW owner" who thinks all that data belongs to *me*, not BMW Motorrad. :) Everything appears normal, all sensors functioning, no fault codes, and I did reset the stepper motors.

I can see where it would be handy to reset those annoying service reminders when doing periodic maintenance at a club tech day. Bravo to the club for purchasing the unit and laptop. =D>
