Ride Committee Planning Meeting

Postby jcabiles » Mon Jan 27, 2020 11:21 pm

The Ride Committee will be hosting a Planning Meeting Saturday 22 Feb to get input for the 2020 riding year. This meeting is open to all interested riders.

Location and time is TBD. We will update this post once a location is selected and time. We are leaning towards meeting in MD west of Rockville.

Please bring your ideas and recommendations. We would also like more riders to step up and lead upcoming rides.

I've signed up for this on the Meetup site, and look forward to the meeting and future rides.
Please note, though, that the time is listed as 9:00am on the Meetup site and in an earlier post here, but as 2:30pm on the BMBBMW events calendar.
I'm going to assume that 9:00am is correct unless I see otherwise.

So did anything get 'cided by the Rides Committee? Nothing posted as of yet.

As we were riding north from Orange Beach today and we crossed into Mississippi (headed to the Tupelo Battlefield), I thought of the old days when we collected pictures of state entry signs or Welcome Centers or whatever worked. Ed required participants to have their designated number in the photo. But I thought, what you really need is just a copy of a digital photo with the date embedded in the corner (from an suitable camera of course). Anybody mention such a "summer challenge?" You'd then share your grand total at the end of the year with your accumulated tally with the Rides Committee maybe at a scheduled monthly "meeting".... =D>

The Ride Committee's get together is next weekend (2/22). We'd love to hear of any other ideas you may have too.

Cheers.

So Y'all seem to be focused on 'group riding' as far as concerns "the Rides Committee" meeting...

When Ed & Barb were in charge (of the yearly Ride theme & scoring), they'd hand out individualized Numbers/Placards that we could attach to our individual bikes and snap a picture. We did rivers, we did county courthouses, and there certainly was the snap-a-picture of every State U entered category. You could send folks to stadiums, or State Parks, or National Monuments {there's a lot of them in the DMV}. We won & enjoyed the "I've Been Everywhere" Tour following places mentioned in Johnny Cash's song... =D> We also won the Twin Cities contest where you visited US towns with a matching overseas town {Paris TX & Paris FR}
(extra points for Doubles & Triples & Quads, etc - there are a lot of Salems & Dovers & Springfields around the World).

The Goal was to encourage Everybody to Ride all over the country documenting their summer rides. As mentioned above, ya just need to be able to prove it's an appropriate/current digital photograph. U could issue new BMWBMW placards, or U could just turn-in a "file" of jpegs with an inventory of the year's theme to the Rides' Committee at the last meeting of the year [before the celebratory Holiday Party]. Need a decent camera with a date feature...

Go Take a Selfie at every Frozen Yogurt Outlet you can find, or Steve Anderson would rather like every BBQ Joint you can locate (lots here in AL)... OR, it could be Lighthouses, or Train stations, or BMW Dealers {Lord knows they're a shrinking commodity}. They just need to be individual, unique, and somewhat identifiable.

Good Luck on Invigorating the Riding Spirit within y'all's membership in 2020!
We're trying to raise the AlaBeemer's Enthusiasm Level too. https://bmwmoal.org/meetings.php

We had good attendance at the Planning Meeting this morning. In attendance were Jose, Ed, Phoebe, Mark, Henry and George.

We have a general schedule of monthly rides with assigned ride leads. Ride leads will be looking at specifics dates. Once those dates are finalized we will update this forum, calendar and the Meetup Site with ride info.

Keep in mind that we are not limited to just these rides. Anyone in the club can organize and lead a ride. So if you are so inclined, add a ride to the schedule and spread the word through the club site and Meetup site.

Schedule:

- April: Presidents Ride 1
- May: Presidents Ride 2
- June: Fort Valley Ride
- July: Flight 93 Memorial
- Aug: Apple House/Morgans Ford Bridge
- Sep: Clifton Breakfast/Flying Circus (Bealton)
- Oct: Fall Colors
