BMWBMW on Meetup.com

Postby dcgsrider » Fri Jan 19, 2018 9:51 am

Our Meetup page is now live. Check it out.

https://www.meetup.com/BMW-Bikers-of-Me ... Washington

It'll be a new way to do member outreach and recruitment, in addition to other platforms like Facebook, the web page, forums, newsletters, etc. All club events will be on Meetup, and viewable/searchable by anyone with an interest in motorcycles.

Thanks to our media chair, Tom Rhodes, for getting it up and running.

So Tom, explain this Meetup app a bit more to us non-Facebook, lo-Tech, BMWBMW-members.

What is the need to put in credit-card info for this "Visiney Corp" in Canada just to participate in another form of Free BMWBMW communications? Is it just me or has every one of the other 32 Meetup members had to agree to possible "Pay-as-You-Go" purchases? This is me being cynical of Big-Business... #-o

Anyway I'm looking forward to warmer weather, and I'm anxious to get out on the new-to-me K-GT for a longer ride.
This weekend is looking very promising!

Phil,

There is no cost to the members of the Meetup group. The club pays a small monthly fee.

FWIW, I think the Meetup "process of registration" sucked me down a rabbit hole for some alternative service called Visiney (from Canada) that I didn't want and don't need... Thankfully, their online registration gives me 5 free days to decline further involvement!

On the subject of MEETUP, I just initiated a 'discussion' to meet-up at Beans in the Belfry; 122 W. Potomac St. Brunswick, MD [on Saturday, 27/01, @noon].

Weather should be conducive for an early Launch!

Ya'll Come! :D

Ciao!

Phil,

Any member of the Meetup group can create an event. This is a great way to organize a group ride.

There are several IT groups that use it, I joined to attend a couple meetings, but gave up after being spammed to death.

Thanks for setting this up. Very helpful in getting a ride organized - I've used it with other groups and always thought it would be good for the club.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to highlight that we have over 50 members now signed up to leverage the Meetup App. As Paul mentioned, "Any member of the Meetup group can create an event. This is a great way to organize a group ride. There is no cost to the members of the Meetup group. The club pays a small monthly fee." I want to encourage members to consider leveraging the app for rides (or eating events) they would like to set up. This is one more way to let members know about a wonderful opportunity coming up to socialize, kick tires and perhaps tell some lies.

Have a great day.

Actually, a slight correction to my announcement. Any member of the Meetup group may suggest an event (in Discussions), but under the current settings only the club president and media chair can create events. Perhaps that needs to be expanded in the future.

I just added a "Discussion" for a Saturday Ride2Eat [since I can't actually start a club meet-up]... Too bad Each Discussion is restricted to about 144 characters! #-o [-X [-o< :twitching:
