Because of our wonderful Congress I had a little free time today. So, I first fixed the broken stud on my head, welded on a nut:







Then did some assembly of the bike, I got the panniers, both fenders and the fairing on, then set the side panels and seats on to see how it will look.








I need to work on the tank, assemble it with new parts and put the roundels on. Then the rest of the bike with new brakes, all new fluids, plugs and a tune.

I installed the mirror block-off plates and finished the instrument surround and front fairing install. The bolts are just countersunk SS with Sharpie paint for temporary. I am going to powder coat them for final install. I am considering a small roundel on the face of each, but am not sure yet.






Ignore the paint, it is covered in smudges from handling, but looks way better than the photos suggest.

I installed the Oilhead GS mirrors, then wired in and installed the new front turn signals, then installed the under panels for the fairing. Still more to do today, but getting there.

Reassembled the tail lights and turn signals, set up the rear seat for new mounts because I removed the Top Case rack, which was the rear seat mount, and fabbed filler plates for the rack grab handle slots. Now the slot has become the grab handle for passengers.





Now to wait on the fuel strainer from BBY to assemble the tank and install it. Then a test ride.

OK, got it all installed, and tossed it on the bike for a view. I haven't added gas yet because I need to bleed the brakes and do a tune-up, but I couldn't resist a mock-up.

Brakes first:







Then I added the strainer and assembled the tank. The PO said the tank was rusty, but it isn't at all. Just a little liner scraped off by long fuel nozzles. I added the Roundels and the rubber pieces.





Then I assembled it temporarily:





I think it is looking pretty good. It needs a little more mechanical work, then a good cleaning and polish, and it will be ready for its glamour shots in the sun.

Looks great. Will you add any chrome accents to the rear of the bike? As a reformed Gold Winger, I am used to a little more bling on the back.

The only chrome on the rear will be on the seat, as you see, and the tail light assembly that is on there. No more added chrome. I actually removed a lot of chrome.

Mechanical prep for the finish.

First I changed the old nasty oil.



See if you can spot an issue?


Yup. the filter seal stayed on the motor.


Don't let that happen of you will have leaks.

I also changed the trans fluid, see the magnetic drain plug?


No worries, this is normal and really just a metal paste.


Next up are the valves.

They were close, but definitely needed adjustment. I also adjusted the rocker arm end play.


I also put in new plugs. The old ones were well worn.

Lastly, someone asked about the rear seat. It can be left off if you want. Just remove the support silver spacers.



I think if you wanted to do this, you might want to remove the lip on the back of the driver's seat for better looks.
