A Week to go for the IBR

Postby BMWGirl » Wed Jun 14, 2017 12:28 pm

I thought I would say a quick hello to everyone. While attending the Holiday lunch in January, I reconnected with a few of the club members and I've received some encouraging notes on Facebook and wanted to say hi over here as well. I haven't been as active in the club as I had hoped to be but after this ride, I'm hoping I can get up there a little more often.

I'm about to start the Iron Butt Rally next week (11,000 miles in 11 days) NOOOO I don't think I will be one of the riders to achieve the 11,000+ total miles but I do hope to be one of the finishers!

We have put a LOT of efforts in to getting the bike ready, and me as well. I've been riding longer days more frequently and adding more and more farkles to my BEAUTIFUL R1200GSA :purdy: I am almost ready to go..... My fiance' is meeting me at the start and the checkpoints to help with anything mechanical that I might need but other than that, I will be on my own for 11 days, riding all over our beautiful country!!

A fellow BMWBMW member is also in it this year - Martin Cover is also riding!! I wish you all the best as well, Marty!

Here are a couple pics of our project :D Not the finish but a few of what we did...

My 2 loves... Blitz and Max

Time is almost here....I'm getting pretty excited!
See you all soon....

Thanks guys! I'm very excited!

As far as following along - the IBA will post daily reports and we are required to carry a Spot, however the spots will be coded as a way to protect the riders from any outside interference. I believe that will be posted as well.

I appreciate the support, very much!!

Here's some more IBR links I've found.

2017 IBR Rally forum:

Looks like the daily reports start today and get posted here:

Do you get a message like “Oops! Something went wrong;” ?

https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/usage says:
"Users of the standard API: Free until exceeding 25,000 map loads per 24 hour."

It works now.

Didn't know there was a limit. You got to look quick. or refresh often.

Jon

Actually, don't refresh the page by pressing F5 or using the browser's refresh button. On the Spotwalla map is a reload or refresh button that updates just the Spotwalla data without loading Google's map again. Google charges for the map data after a certain number of loads.

Yes, there's this admonition on the IBR site from "Sidebar 3: IT Issues and String Theory:"

"Jason [Spotwalla developer] has requested that we remind everyone to please stop hitting refresh on the Spotwalla page, as that causes the page to ping Google Maps with a new map request every time you do that. There is a GREEN countdown clock in your browser showing the time to the next update (it is a 5min countdown). If you really must refresh what you are seeing, hit the GREEN countdown button instead of refreshing the page to avoid extra Google requests that are costly to Jason and also result in the recent crashes of the system."

Like it says, the page is set to auto-refresh the data every 5 minutes. That ought to suffice for most users.
