Route 211 Scooter Cop??
Posted: Tue Apr 18, 2017 7:21 amSo maybe I was having a flash-back but damn, this was a pretty strange/odd event.
Sunday I was out riding on the SR and took a break at the gas station at Rixieville and 211. As I was sitting there I noticed a Moto Cop in the median just down 211 and made note to take it easy when I pulled out to head up 211. The more I looked at him the more something didn't seem quite right. While he had on a police style helmet, white and blue, a while shirt with some sort on insigna, dark pants and boots the bike didn't seem quite right. The more I looked the more I realized the front wheel seemed rather small, the rear looked like it was enclosed rather than having bags and as I continued to watch him it seemed the whole front end looked wrong for a real moto cops bike. The head light was rather small and white and there were no additional blue lights, sirens or rear box. Plus he was waving to all the bikes that passed him. Hmmmm
Just as I was getting ready to head out again, he rolled the bike of the center stand (which cop bikes don't have or ever use) turned around and rode into the parking lot of the gas station from the far end. That is when I realized it was indeed what I was thinking, it was a scooter not a police bike. Then as he rolled by where I was parked he pointed at the SR and gave me the high sign, that's when I saw he was riding a Vintage, early 70's, late 60;s Vespa! Funny thing was he was dressed like a cop, the bike was blue and white and he had both a gun and a radio on his belt. But there is no way he was a "real" cop, I mean, a vintage Vespa on 211, who the hell would he catch on that if a speeder when by? Hell I could probably out run him on my 125!
After he rode by he headed back to the far end of the parking lot which is pretty long, disappeared behind some cars parked at the far end and when I went out and up 211 I looked for him, (planning on stopping the chat and take a picture for "evidence"
) but damn if he was no where to be seen?? He didn't go by me going down 211 and he couldn't have gone up 211 without going by me since the only crossover point out of the gas parking is right where I was parked. If he had gone out the far end he would have had to ride up 211 on the wrong side, although there is a small dead-end road 100 feet up he could have turned down if riding the shoulder of 211 which is pretty wide but still.. That's what had me wondering (that he had just disappeared??)...Hmmmm.... Flash-back to those days when seeing what was not always really there was expected??? (given the right circumstances!
