I think there are many reasons for decline of participation. We can't blame Jim for everything.
Perhaps we need another call for candidates. It would be great to fill as many BoD positions as possible via 'normal' election process, then seeking out participants to fill empty slots via meeting-based voting. (IIRC - that is how a membership slot was filled several years ago.)

As a club, we have to continually ask "where do we see this club in 1-2-5 years? what do we want the club to be to its' members?" I know that some of us worked hard on the idea of succession planning, to move people thru/up the BoD and bring in new people. It may be the base support and BoD-level participation just isn't there anymore. We are talking about a different generation of riders and participation means something different than it did 15-20-25 years ago.

But you have to ask the hard questions to get to the right path.

I get the membership directory every year, and I wonder who *are* all these people, based on participation levels at club events. (You may be wondering the same thing about me. I haven't been to a club event since JVB's tech day.)

One reason I don't want to get more involved is that--as typical of many volunteer organizations--5% of the people do 95% of the work. It's just not a commitment I can make.

I would run but the election is rigged. You should see the emails I deleted from Ural.

In this area, traffic, long hours at work, and a lot of other things to do discourages participation. Traffic is a hard one because it separates our suburbs with walls of cars & trucks.

Encouragement is part of the solution. So is communication. Other stuff too.

I want to help. Perhaps I could be a secretary or treasurer.

Bruce, I do think the traffic has something to do with it. As an example, I haven't headed to a Morton's event in quite awhile. I love Morton's (and Andi would LOOOOVE to live closer) but the afternoon traffic to get home from there, even on Saturdays, is absolutely awful. Even the trusty alternates are clogged. I don't know how ya'll who live there do it.

Our weeknight RTE's were very popular, and I think fell victim to the same issue. I would think nothing of heading to Berryville during the week, now I would poke myself with a fork before doing it.

I think you would be awesome in a board role.

Who is on the election committee, and when will there be a call for candidates?

Well, might as well throw my hat in the ring too. I'd hate to see the club languish with unfilled leadership positions. How do I go about it, beyond emailing Kurtis? (I did serve on the Elections Cmte many moons ago.)

Glad to see that that process seems to be underway. Would someone please post the names of the election committee participants, and the email address to be used to contact them if folks have questions, concerns, etc? It may have been in the BTS, but the more places you can find it, the better.
Thank you all, for your work in the club!
