I would be quick to join the bunch that will say... No... they didn't.
As a side story, I drove my new to me, 1942 Willy MB Jeep into a U.S. Army vehicle inspection station in late 1972. When the MP who was the inspector asked me to show him my left turn signal, I extended my left arm horizontally and pointed to my left. His reply was "Are you kidding me?". My response was "No, they didn't have turn signals in 1942." He went and made a phone call, and when he came back he issued me my inspection sticker. I had passed.
Before I drove off he asked what the right turn signal was... I showed him. His reply was "amazing"...
