Are we a biker gang?

Postby Georgeinva » Sat May 23, 2015 9:35 am

If your answer is no stop and think how we look to others.

We all (for the most part) ride the same brand of motorcycle.
We wear similar paramilitary uniforms. Stiff abrasion resistant jackets and pants with lots of pockets, full faced helmets, heavy boots with straps big buckles and sometimes metal toe protectors.
We affix identifying patches to our clothing and bikes as a sign to others in the know.
We descend on restaurant parking lots, take over large percentages of available seating rearranging the tables and chairs to suit our needs.
Some express loyalty to the brand with tattoos.

To put this in perspective the Juggalos are classified as a gang by the FBI.

All true, but somehow I don't see us getting into a shootout in front of the Clifton General Store

We managed to have breakfast yesterday without a shootout. Frankly, I was a little disappointed.

We definitely don't pull out guns cause other bikers have the bottom "state" rocker.

I don't think we're a biker gang for the simple reason that we don't do toy runs. Obviously all biker gangs do them.

No shootouts but I have seen some of 'our' ilk menace others with paper coffee cups. It wasn't pretty.

I still say you can put an eye out with one of those things.

There is something in the description of "gangs" as having a criminal conspiracy. Being a conspiracy theorist does not count. :)

I would bet if you searched our members at events in VA you would find the ratio of "weapons" to attendants similar to the Texas shoot out. A few times I have seen things get a little intense in Clifton, usually involving bacon. Bunch of savages in this town.

You can't menace on a K-bike. Just can't be done, I have tried and failed.

But we do conspire to commit criminal acts. Usually of the vehicle safety code and speed laws. And now that I think of it I do recall an ex-K-Biker liked to pass even on doulbe yellow lines. So maybe you can menace on a K-bike.

Clearly you didn't have a Starbucks cup with you.

well, according to the Washington Post
biker gangs have recruited scores of employees of federal, state and local governments, police and firefighters

and
gangs — or clubs, as they prefer to be called —

and
meetings are generally about bikers’ rights, safety and other administrative issues.

so, lessee...we have government employees...and call ourselves a "club"...and promote safety...

doesn't look too good for us, does it?

So maybe we should call ourselves an Association.

At the risk of being exclusive or pretentious, we could be a Society :D

The thesaurus is rich with possibilities. To be sure, there are some synonyms that we should avoid as they are already taboo.

I guess it's all about the reaction we get when we walk into a restaurant, right?

An example... I used to ride with a gang. Well, okay.. it was the CMA, but still.. We had a lot of loud bikes and some rough-lookin' characters so at a glance, we mighta looked scary. I remember one time when about 30 of us walked into the Bavarian Inn restaurant out in Shepherdstown one fall day a few years ago. There were a lot of concerned looks cast our way as we strolled in with all of our leather glory. However as some of us began to turn and move around to take our seats, our "Christian Motorcyclist Association" back patches came into view - and you could feel the collective exhale as folks went back to working on their meals. :)
