This all reminds me of the 1990 Square Route Rally. Then-President Bush had invited Soviet Premier Gorbachev and his wife to Camp David the same weekend as the Square Route. When the helicopters flew over Camp Westmar, a number of us stood in the clearing and waved.



The funniest part was riding down into Thurmont and seeing the Secret Service guys guarding the roads. I saw a couple of guys standing next to a Crown Victoria, inconspicuously wearing brand new plaid lumberjack shirts. Very clever disguise, I never would have guessed...

Speaking of FEMA facilities, I rode up to the National Firefighter Memorial (http://www.usfa.fema.gov/fireservice/fa ... index.shtm) in Emmittsburg yesterday while collecting Tour of Honor locations. They now have a security trailer at the entrance to the facility, which is a large firefighter training center. When you get there, they take your driver's license and give you a visitor pass. They hold the license until you leave. I'm sure there's some reason for this, but I wouldn't have thought a firefighting center in rural Maryland would be considered a target.

I went by there a year or so ago and was told "Nope, we don't have any Rockets, Man" then they took my picture and told me never to come back,,,,
