Just Completed Jim Ford's Rider's Workshop

Postby PhilAger on Fri Apr 27, 2012 9:40 pm

Greetings Ya'll,

Just a quickie here with a few pix showing a few of your club's riders out on some "Invisible Roads" in lower Virginia. In case you didn't notice, we had a little rain over the weekend! #-o Nevertheless, all riders successfully completed a challenging and worthwhile Road Riding Skills Workshop where we covered about 475 miles from Thurmont, MD down to Natural Bridge, VA eventually concluding in a downpour in New Market, VA (which caught us by surprise because we signed up to travel to Canaan Valley, WV, but more on that in the Ride's Report). No significant difficulties to report, although there were many, many drips.

Seriously, Karen and I are working on a Full-Blown training report to be sent to Wes in the near future, but then it'll likely to appear later this summer when all the Square Route Rally hoopla has subsided.

Here's a shot of the riders & instructor taken at the Griffin Tavern in Flint Hill. It shows L to R:
Karen (Your Membership Guru), Jim Ford, Ted Danforth (from PA), Phil (on bended knee), Avner Skolnik (aka Motorhead), and Dennis Odell (from PA)

Here's a shot taken in the parking lot before departing to the South for our afternoon instruction on Saturday. It shows L to R:
Dennis (by his G650GS), Moi (by my F800GS), Karen (by her F650GS), and Ted (beside his R1200GSA).

This shot was taken and sent to us by Jim (with his tripod); showing us beside the Bullpasture River along Rt 678 while we all enjoyed a coffee break (courtesy of AVNER!).

And here's Avner in the process of preparing Turkish Coffee from his GS-Espresso Delivery System -- It was very much appreciated (because we were all cold)!!! =D>

Bottom Line: Jim offers a good product, and we'd all recommend you get some of this On-The-Road Rider Coaching. [-o<
You'll certainly learn a few tricks from a well-qualified and enthusiastic BMWBMW Member!

Ciao!

That was a great two-day workshop, and I recommend it to everyone!

I felt that Jim Ford's techniques suited me better than others that I learned at training programs such as Total Control and advanced MSF classes. This, plus having him ride right behind me for miles of twisty roads giving me direct feedback in real time over the radio made it a very productive weekend, and I felt how my riding improves during the workshop.

The fact that it rained for the most part was actually a plus, because we got to practice everything we learned at the worst possible conditions (rain, wind and fog).

Even the rain couldn't hide the beautiful roads Jim had-picked for the class, and at some points the views were breathtaking. I was told some people pay for these classes just for the rides...

I certainly feel that I ride better thanks to Jim, and I practice many of the tips and techniques I learned in the Rider's Workshop on a daily bases now. It was well worth the money, and yes- I will take it again!

Here are some photos I took along with Phil, Karen's photos, and a few I got from Jim Ford's website:
