Next Project, 1996 R1100R.

Picked up this near basket case for a song for my next winter project. Bad clutch (with a new pack in a box), bad battery, rust and corrosion everywhere. I'm thinking just to strip it down, clean it good, change out the tires and brake lines/pads, repaint the driveline black, and the bodywork white with an added 1/4 fairing and white wheels.

The battery never recovered, even on life support. I swapped in a new/used battery and it fired right up, after sitting more than a year, same half tank of gas.

I saw that on CL. I recall it was cheap, but can't recall the price. What'd you get it for?

The brown seat is "distinctive".

He was asking $900, I got it for $750, with a brand new in the box $450 clutch pack.

Jim,

Hot dog, another JVB project bike!

How many miles? Are things like wheel bearings and suspension bushings likely to be in good shape?

Rick

Hi Rick,

Thanks. The bike has 95K miles, but is in actually decent shape. I will post an update tomorrow.

Nice rescue

A few more days and it may have been euthanized!

Stripped down except for the front suspension. Seat recovered, started rebuilt, and switchgear refurbished. Soon the front comes off, then a ton of cleaning and painting.

I see lots of cleaning and painting in my future. Plus a full set of brake lines, pads, a rear rotor, etc.

Finally back to the project. I stripped down the front and have it ready to clean and prep for paint. Sounds easy, lots of work. Fortunately it is finally cool in the garage.

So I wonder where do you find all the torque ratings for all those bolts that will eventually need tightening.? Or do you just use the manual JvBTorque

A little more done today. I removed all the brakes and lines, have new SS lines to put on. Cleaned the calipers, painted them, and added new pads. They look pretty good for 95K miles.

I also removed the throttle bodies for cleaning and painting, and ordered new boots and a throttle cable.

I also pulled off the top triple tree and cleaned a lot of crap off the motor, and prepped the swing arm and trans for paint.
