Curious about why posted rules are not being enforced

Jeremy updated the requirement for items for sale, yet people don't seem to be following it. I also recall a specific prohibition on simply posting links to other websites when one member was doing this for his items on ebay.

Why is this being permitted now? Or did the rules change?

What am I missing? All the adds I see have Make, Model and a pic. I didn't see any ebay linked adds. Just the one from George sell the F800 track bike with a link to another forum. Is that it?

Could be referring to the Ural post from Aether which only has a link.

Yes, there are at least two that were put up recently. I recall the discussion about the links to the sale and it was prohibitted. Does that only apply to ebay ads? I guess I read Jeremy's rule different that you, no biggie. Thanks for the clarification.

I think, and this may just be me, if someone here sees an ad somewhere else that he thinks someone here may be interested in, posting a link to the ad is ok. As long as it isn't ebay I guess. Anybody else?

meant something to me that it obviously did not to others. That and I recall the specific discussion about specific ebay links. I still don't understand the difference between an ebay link and a link to some other place, but it isn't my decision.

Can we get clarification why links are okay but e-bay is not? Did something happen with the e-bay links??

Well here's my 2 cents.

eBay listings last a finite amount of time and are aimed at the entire world. No one monitors them either. (I guess that is part of my job on here.) There have been some threads in General Chat about cool, unusual bikes for sale on eBay, but it was more about the bike, not that it was for sale.

Links from other MC sites are specific to those interested in MC's. Most people that put ads on MC sites at least have more than a passing interest. It wouldn't be difficult for the poster to copy and paste a pic if they want to put it here.

Pics are required, so I say we either enforce it or be more tolerant.

I have had people send me pics to post for them when they are ...... well, challenged in that regard.

we discourage links to ebay because the purpose of the marketplace forums is to sell things directly and locally. placing a link to ebay just seems to feel very impersonal to me. now if someone tried to sell an item on the forum and it didn't sell, and then the user posted a link to ebay, i'd probably be fine with that...

as for links to external sites, i'd still want to see picture and price and description on this forum, everything that's layed out in the rules. like BK said, a quick copy and paste operation shouldn't be too much to ask.
